Darren James born Darren Keith Edwards on February 25 1964 is a former pornographic actor and director from the United States who rose to prominence after contracting HIV and infecting three pornographic actresses in 2004 - Infection discovery and consequences An urgent search for potentially infected performers was launched in an attempt to avert a possible outbreak. The Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation from which James had received his diagnosis conducted the search and subsequent testing. It was determined that James became infected while having unprotected anal sex with Brazilian actress Bianca Biaggi in Rio de Janeiro for a scene for the video Split That Booty 2. Three actresses who had worked with James shortly after his return to the United States were found to be infected as well Canadian newcomer Lara Roxx Mareisa Arroyo and Czech-born Jessica Dee. Roxx had only been in the adult industry for two months when she became infected. It totally made me realize how much I trusted this system that wasn't to be trusted at all because it obviously doesn't work she said after learning about the HIV outbreak adding I thought porn people were the cleanest people in the world. Judy Star appeared in several films in which Roxx also appeared and she was known to have performed a sex scene with a female actress who had previously performed a scene with James. Star on the other hand was HIV-free. Fears of HIV infection along with the public scandal and industry criticism that followed the outbreak forced a temporary halt in the production of adult films in Southern California.
